Oscar Night

I will be blogging during the Academy Awards on Sunday. As such I will make a few predictions right now which will probably prove that I know Hollywood better then most people or that I have no clue about how Hollywood actually works. Prediction one Les Miserables sweeps every major category it is nominated for. Jennifer Lawrence wins best actress. Hugh Jackman wins best actor. Anne Hathaway winds best supporting actress. More thoughts coming!

TV Show of the Month

This week I am recommending "Bates Motel." It might seem shocking to most people that I would enjoy a remake/ remaining of the untouchable "Psycho"however this is an excellent remaining of the iconic movie. The relationship between Norman (played to perfection by Freddie Highmore) and his mother Norma (played brilliantly by Vera Farmiga) is so disturbing in it's complexity that it is worth watching dolly for that dynamic that these two great actors bring to the screen. Additionally, there are some really interesting side characters and a few sup rising twits that make this show an excellent remake. Check it out!

Comedy of the Month

This week I am recommending "Spaceballs." Mel Brooks is a comedic genus but what really makes some of his films stand out is that despite the fact that they are comedies and arguably the most brilliant satire films you will ever see they are made incredibly well. That is one of the rare gifts Mel Brooks has when he makes a film. It is at one time a parody and a worthy addition to the genre of film that he is in fact making fun of. "Spaceballs" makes fun of "Star Wars" and yet I would argue that most "Star Wars" fans love "Spaceballs." Check it out.
