Oscars
I was wrong on the best picture winner and I am very happy about that. Very glad that Argo won and was very happy for Ben Affleck who has often been marginalized during his career. He is a talented filmmaker and deserves to be treated as such. As for the show itself there were way too many musical performances. The 2013 Oscars apparently thought they were the 2013 Grammy awards. The length of the show was astronomically long! The presenters were mostly boring, lackluster and completely out of place. The Oscars needs to generate some more interest in some of their awards because watching a show for almost four hours to see essentially five big awards is quite a terrible way to do things. In regards to Seth McFarlane, he was witty, crude, and downright sensational. He was able to put some life into this awful telecast and make the host at the very least seem relevant again. He will never be allowed to host this show again because his humor was too accurate and biting. The man is a genus and in my opinion was the best Oscar Host since Bob Hope. Thoughts?

Gotta think about Jon Stewart who was also sensational.
ReplyDeleteMy main problem with the Oscars is how they try to make it seem elitist and arty by giving half the show away to "les miserables" a story that has been told like 100 different times and has already been a movie. Broadway has their own awards, no need to give them the Oscars as well.
ReplyDeleteI could see if they changed it but the whole movie is singing no lines, how is that acting?

Once again Jon we are on the same page!
ReplyDeleteI thought Seth was excellent as the host this year. For those people who were surprised at some of his jokes, they obviously don't know a thing about Seth! The only part of the show from his standpoint that I thought was unnecessary was the song about all of the actresses' boobs that we have seen on screen. I'm not the type of person that thinks that it was out of line or politically incorrect, I just thought that it didn't bring anything to the show. His quick little one liners before commercial breaks were great, especially the one about the show being too long. I agree with Argo winning best picture, but I thought Silver Linings Playbook was a very close second. I'm happy for Ben, who got totally snubbed in the best director category! Good for him...The worst part of the show for me was when Paul Rudd and Melissa McCarthy presented. I am a huge Paul Rudd fan, I think he's hilarious, but that little skit was so hard to sit through. Oscars need to step it up next year as far as presenters are concerned!

Seth Macfarlane really was a great host. Not only is he funny and witty he is a great speaker and performer as well. Compared to the other award shows, such as the VMA's & etc, they never choose great hosts like Seth. Maybe they should and I'd want to watch. To be honest, I am not always loyal to watching the Oscars each year. But, when I found out Seth was hosting, I made sure I watched.
ReplyDeleteI thought Argo was a great movie and earned its award. I recently seen Silver Linings playbook though and I was in LOVE with it. Jennifer Lawrence is beautiful and a great actor.
